Syrian hamsters are a popular choice of pet for children, but many people underestimate the extent of their care requirements. As Syrians are used to travelling large distances and are very active in the wild, they require an enclosure of at least 1m x 0.5m. We do provide cages slightly smaller at 0.8m x 0.5m which are acceptable as long as the proper amount of enrichment, variety of substrates and forage, and regular use of a play pen is provided. Syrian hamsters can be unpredictable when it comes to temperament: some tame very easily and others can remain aloof or try and bite. We offer a 7 day guarantee on our animals to make sure your hamster is the right fit for you and your household. Syrian hamsters should be given a mix of a soft substrate such as Carefresh or Tiny Friends Bedding with a wood substrate like hemp or aspen, and be given the opportunity to burrow in at least 4-6" of bedding. We do not recommend sawdust or wood shavings.
